NYM Recycling

New York Mills is host to one of Otter Tail County Solid Waste's canister sites for recycling.  These bins are now located at the City's Shop building at 19 North Tousley. Bins are located between the shop and Vaught Auto & Marine (or behind the Public Library).   Items which can be dropped off at this site include glass (excluding light bulbs, automotive glass and porcelain), plastic with a neck or spout (ice cream pails, margarine and whipped topping containers and plastic bags are not accepted), aluminum, tin, newspaper/phone books (except for glossy paper, which needs to be taken to any recycling center such as the Perham site), corrugated cardboard and white or pastel paper/newsprint.  Tag board, construction paper and fluorescent paper are not accepted.

More complete instructions on how to prepare items for recycling  and when the recycling drop off sites are serviced, visit https://ottertailcountymn.us/.../otter-tail-county.../ #GiveWasteANewLife. Another helpful tool is the Waste Wizard which can be accessed at: https://ottertailcountymn.us/department/recycling/

For items which are not acceptable at the canister site, a Household Hazardous Waste Collection date is scheduled every year.  For 2022  the date for the New York Mills location is Friday, September 9th from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the former County Building at 118 N Main Street.  This collection is for households ONLY.  For a complete list of acceptable items or for further information, call the Solid Waste Department at 218-736-2161 or check the Otter Tail County website.

As these are now located in the downtown area, this is a good time to ask everyone to please help to keep the area clean and free of debris. DO NOT leave recyclables outside of the bins if they are full. Please deposit items appropriately in the correct bins.  Thank you for helping to keep New York Mills beautiful!
