Be Aware of Two Scams Reportedly Circulating in New York Mills

The New York Mills Police Department has received multiple calls of citizens receiving phone calls from a party claiming to be with the New York Mills Police Department and the US Border Patrol. The suspects are attempting to gain personal information.

And today, The City of New York Mills has received another report of a scam. An elderly individual received a call from someone claiming to be the City saying they had an unpaid bill and threatened that they were going to take away their home if they didn't pay. The City would never call and ask for sensitive payment information over the phone and could certainly never take your home. Please remember not to give out any personal information over the phone to callers. If you receive such a call, please contact law enforcement.
