Independent School District #553-Preparing Students for Life

For the past 100 years, the New York Mills School District has been preparing students for life.

The 184,000 square foot building in the northwest part of town, houses students in pre-k through 12th grade. The school has 50 classrooms, a 500-seat auditorium, sports center, two media centers, three gymnasiums, a courtyard, woodshop, metal shop, greenhouse, fitness center and large commons area for lunch.

With more than 50 teachers on staff, NY Mills School takes pride in helping each and every student achieve his or her personal best. In recent years, the school has adopted “Response to Intervention” methods to assure that no student is left behind. This program, along with special education programs and gifted and talented programs, help all students grow.

From athletics to arts and everything in between, NY Mills students have a myriad of opportunities—band, choir, daily physical education, daily use of technology, science labs, up-to-date curriculum, STEM programs, college credit classes, peer tutoring, a school-to-work program, greenhouse, building trades class and a wide-range of art classes. The NY Mills athletic program is district-wide, which helps students develop skills in their sport at a young age.  The district offers trapshooting, wrestling, baseball, softball, volleyball, football and basketball programs, as well as coops with area schools for swimming, gymnastics and hockey. NY Mills students can also take part in National Honor Society, FFA, BPA, Close-Up, Speech, Mock Trial, Knowledge Bowl, One Act Play, Fall Musical and the Student Council, as well.

With opportunities in and out of the classroom, students from NY Mills School are prepared for life.
